What We Do

The EGG goal is simple and focused. We aim to get more girls back in schools.

Achieving this begins with simple, low level activities.

  • We emphasize strong parental and community participation as the key to getting girls back in school.
  • Our methods improve the quality of education by reforming schools to focus on creative life and work skills, away from rote memorization. This increases involvement and keeps them in school.

Using a unique model for reforming operating government schools and working with government ministries, we are able to help large numbers of girls at low cost.

Why that is important

By emphasizing strong community participation, our goal is to re-enroll at least 80% of the girls who have dropped out. Strong parental participation is key - it can increase girls' enrolment beyond 90%, even in the most traditional Islamic communities.

The next step is quality of education to keep them in school: to improve school quality to incorporate life and work skills with a focus on creative learning.

How it makes a difference

When women are educated, the transformation begins. Initially, this process can transform both the schools and the culture of the village. Extensive research from the UN and the World Bank shows that as women are educated, the birthrate falls, family health improves, literacy increases because an educated mother is more likely to send her children to school, political extremism and violence decline, and national income grows.
